The garbage collection fee is mandatory and currently is set at $230.00 a year per household. The bills are mailed by the end of December/beginning of January for the billing period of January 1st through December 31st. If you plan to drop off your payment at the township office, there is a mail slot at the left of the front door if the office is closed when you come. All past due balances will be turned over to collections.

For any resident that is the age of 65 or older will receive a discount on garbage bills that are paid on time. No discount will apply if paid after due date. You will be required to show proof of age and the discount will only apply for one property in which you must reside.

Toter Garbage Cans:

Each household in 2016 was provided with a Toter Garbage Can from our current garbage hauler County Waste. You should take care of this can and protect it from damage as best as possible. Residents have an option of a 35 gallon or 65 gallon Toter Garbage Can. If you would like to change your Toter Garbage Can or replace a broken can please contact County Waste/GFL/Casella at (570) 382-3304. They will provide this service to you and your household free of charge because of Lower Towamensing Township's garbage contract. Should your garbage not be collected, please call the number above, or the number on your Toter Garbage Can.

Bulk Items:

Residents are allowed to place one bulk item out for trash collection. Please give the hauler time to collect your bulk item.

Tire Disposal:

Our current garbage contract does not allow for tires to be disposed with your weekly garbage collection. Please dispose of your tires responsibly. Should you need to dispose your tires you may call County Waste at (570) 382-3304 and pay to have your tires disposed of properly.

Inclement Weather Delays:

County Waste strives to provide collections weekly during the winter months, but from time to time winter weather events prevents them from collecting your garbage during storms. There may be times where garbage collection is delayed for weather events, please allow the hauler time to safely collect your garbage when it is safe to do so after storms. If we receive notification of canceled or delayed collection, we will make every attempt possible to notify our residents. During storms to help with snow removal and prevent damage to your Toter Garbage Can, please remove your can from the roadside to allow the plow truck to remove the snow without damaging your Toter Garbage Can.
